Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker At Amherst

The 12th ranked Middlebury women's tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 match at second-ranked Amherst on Saturday, by a score of 5-4. The Jeffs improve to 15-2, 7-1, while the Panthers fall to 12-4, 4-3 in NESCAC play.

Middlebury held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, in three tightly-contested matches. Amherst was able to pull even and eventually ahead for the 5-4 win with four wins in singles play. Earning wins for Amherst in three set matches were Laura Danzig and Carlissa King, while Natasha Brown held on for a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at number five and Laken King pulled out a 6-0, 7-6 (4) win at number six. Victoria Aiello was a 6-1, 6-2 winner for Middlebury at #2, while Jamie Haar earned a 6-4, 6-4 win in the fourth slot.

The match lasted over four and a half hours, with Carlissa King rallying from a first set loss of 6-2 to take the second and third frames 6-4, 6-3 over Brittany Faber to earn the clinching victory for Amherst.
