Ithaca Edges Scranton

Ithaca College advanced to the NCAA second round with a 5-4 victory over the University of Scranton (9-6) in an NCAA Regional match at Middlebury College (Vt.). The Bombers (12-7) will take on the host school on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
Scranton took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning and #1 and #3, with Ithaca taking the match at #2 singles.
Ithaca tied the match quickly in singles, as Allison Young picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stephanie Boccuzzi. The Bombers extended the lead at #2 when Carly Siegel was a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Devon Cohen.
Scranton made it a 3-3 match at #6 when Nicole Mahaffey was a 6-2, 6-3 victor over Kelsey Harness. Ithaca answered when Allison Vizaitis topped Megan Azzalina 6-4, 6-1 in the #4 spot. Scranton’s Elisha Connell defeated Becky Guzzo 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 at #3 to leave the match to be decided at #4 singles.
In the final match, Laurel Salladay earned a 7-6 (3) win in the first set, with Caitlin Ehly answering with a 7-5 victory in set #2. Salladay came through in the third set, sending her team into the second round with a 6-3 win.
