Leung To Defend ITA Title
October 10, 2012
After winning the ITA singles championship last fall during her rookie season, Middlebury sophomore Lok-Sze Leung will look to defend her title this weekend in Alabama. The sophomore will take part in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, held October 11-14 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama. The USTA/ITA National Small College Championships are comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. The singles and doubles champions at each divisional level will then compete to become the overall “Super Bowl” champions. The "Super Bowl" champions earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Leung had an impressive rookie season for the Panthers, finishing the year with a record of 34-3. After winning the ITA title in the fall, her success continued in the spring, as she was named the NESCAC Player and Rookie of the Year, while earning second-team honors in doubles play. During NCAA play in May, Leung won four matches before falling in the national championship contest.
