Women's Tennis With Solid Spring Break Trip

The ninth-ranked Middlebury women’s tennis team enjoyed a successful spring break trip to California, earning a record of 3-2. The Panthers took on four teams ranked in the top 12 nationally during their trip, as well as Division I Cal. State Northridge.
The Panthers fell to their Division I opponent on their first day of the trip, with Lok-Sze Leung earning a 6-4, 6-1 win at #1 singles. The following day, the Panthers faced another tough opponent, falling 7-2 to second-ranked Claremont. The Panthers earned two doubles wins in the match, as Ria Gerger and Leung won 8-6 at #2, while Lauren Amos and Margot Marchese were 8-3 winners in the #3 slot.
Middlebury earned a convincing 9-0 win over 11th-ranked Depauw to break a brief two-match losing streak. Five of six singles matches were in straight sets, while the Panthers lost just seven doubles points.
After a day off, Middlebury earned a key win over NESCAC-foe Williams, the fifth-ranked team in the nation. The Panthers swept all three doubles matches, with Leung earning a 6-3, 7-5 victory at #1. Gerger was a 6-4, 6-0 winner in the second slot, while Marchese won a three-set battle, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
The week ended with a 7-2 victory over 12th-ranked Pomona. Middlebury again swept all three doubles contests. Leung, Gerger and Marchese won their singles matches, as did Katie Paradies at #6, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
