Women's Tennis Opens With Two Wins

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women’s tennis team opened up its spring season with a pair of indoor matches at home against Colby and Brandeis. The Panthers opened with a 9-0 win over Colby, before defeating 24th-ranked Brandeis by the same score.
Middlebury had little trouble in doubles play, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after dropping just four games. Singles play was similar as the Panthers dominated by winning 72 of 78 games.
Ria Gerger made quick work of her opponent at #1, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Margot Marchese kept things rolling at #3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Dorrie Paradies cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #4. In her first dual match, Kaysee Orozco was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at #2, while Katie Paradies made quick work of her opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the fifth spot. Also playing her first dual match, Jennifer Sundstrom emerged victorious 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth slot.
The late-night Brandeis match was much tighter, despite the 9-0 victory. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play, the Panthers swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
Orozco opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3, before D. Paradies made it a 5-0 match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the fourth spot. Alexandra Fields won her first dual match of the year, topping her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at #2. Gerger picked up an impressive win at #1 over 17th-ranked Carley Cooke, coming from 2-5 down to earn a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Lauren Amos earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in the sixth slot, while Sadie Shackelford made her single debut with a 6-4, 7-5 win at #5.
