The Bread Loaf School of English

Welcome to Bread Loaf

Going to class in Bread Loaf Barn

The Bread Loaf School of English is a summer graduate school of Middlebury College, with some 500 students attending our four campuses each summer.
The Bread Loaf experience, especially for those pursuing a degree for four or five summers, is deep, rich, and transformative. Our students participate in an academic program that offers a huge array of courses about literature and language, taught by our world-class faculty. Our students and faculty study together, take meals together, and relax together. Many people form the deepest friendships of their lives at Bread Loaf. Take a look at us. Ask us any questions you have. Think of applying.
