Applying to Bread Loaf
Who are Bread Loaf students?
They come from all 50 states and from countries around the world. If they are teachers, they are seeking a graduate school experience that will challenge and stimulate them, expand and deepen their knowledge of the subjects they teach, and work with their teaching schedules.
Successful applicants teach in public, private, and international schools, at all levels. They work in publishing, business, retail, law, medicine, and almost any profession you can imagine. Some are in their early twenties, some are in their forties and beyond; the median age of our students is about 30.
All Bread Loaf students share a love of literature and good writing. They are inspired by an excellent faculty drawn from some of the best colleges and universities in the U.S. and U.K., and they learn from these master teachers and from each other.
Once accepted, students must re-enroll each summer.
