Middlebury College maintains the social houses in the belief that they can be a positive addition to the larger campus community and that they provide students with valuable opportunities for assuming responsibility for activities and programs that support the life of the College community. Each house prepares an annual statement of purpose and program that shows how it will contribute to the life of the larger College community.

The six social houses at Middlebury are co-ed living facilities whose members provide a social outlet for the campus. The houses are Delta, Kappa Delta Rho (KDR), The Mill, Omega Alpha (Tavern), and Xenia.

These houses function independently and collectively as the InterHouse Council (IHC).  The IHC maintains a system of self-governance followed by all of the social houses and the College's SuperBlocks.
