Bluegrass Association: The purpose of the Bluegrass Association is to increase campus appreciation of folk, bluegrass, and acoustic music, to promote weekly community gatherings centered on acoustic music in the American rural tradition, and to provide a forum for casual groups of acoustic musicians and its supporters to come together. This organization also aims to contract at least one mainline act each semester to perform on campus for the entertainment of the Middlebury community as a whole.
Bobolinks (co-ed): This crazy co-ed crew of savvy rock stars pleases audiences on and off campus with their repertoire of everything from Level 42 to U2, and they do it a'cappella
Classical Dance Middlebury (CDM): Classical dance aims to foster appreciation of all dance forms, particularly classical ballet, through a rigorous extracurricular program of professional, multi-level training in classical ballet. To meet these goals, the organization aims to provide both performance and attendance opportunities in dance-related productions and events.
Dark Room: Photo Workshop
Dissipated Eight (D-8): Founded in 1952, this award-winning all-male a cappella group performs both on and off campus. Auditions are held at the beginning of every semester.
G.T./VT (Generation Today/Vermont) Breakers Club: This new organization seeks to teach breakdancing (Hip-Hop dance/acrobatics) and the music and culture to all those willing to learn. In addition, breakers will bring awareness of Hip-Hop and Breakdancing to the Middlebury community by holding performances and workshops.
Hepburn Zoo Theatre
: Established in the early seventies, the theater has evolved into a versatile student performance space, which hosts theatre, dance and music performances throughout the year.
Lindy Hop
Mamajamas: This funky co-ed a cappella group wows audiences with their diverse repertoire ranging from Macy Gray to the Grateful Dead and everything in between. With a strong emphasis on both musicality and fun, they always put on a good show.
MchakaMchaka (Run & Sing): The purpose of MMM will be to provide a group in which members of the community can run and sing in the distinct tradition of Tanzania, East Africa known as Mchakamchaka. This entails running and singing in the call and response manner just as students do in schools across Tanzania. The repertoire will be made up of choral pieces from various African cultural groups. MM also aims to bring performers in the African tradition to campus and to see African performers off campus.
Middance
Middlebury College Musical Players
: We are a group of people dedicated to putting together and performing musical theater. Our membership includes students, faculty, and community members with a wide range of talents and skill levels. We not only put together full-scale productions (which have included A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Bye Bye Birdie, and Children of Eden), but also smaller events such as cabarets and movie screenings. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Middlebury College Pep Band
Middlebury Footloose: This organization provides students with lessons in Swing, Latin, and Ballroom dance. We give students an opportunity to use their dancing skills by providing transportation to dances around Vermont and by bringing in bands and DJ's to host our own dances.
Musicians Guild (MMG): The purpose of the Middlebury Musician's Guild is to unify the performing musical talent at Middlebury. By organizing Middlebury's musically-inclined students, the MMG provides a forum in which publicly represents its members through an empowered, unified voice, and accordingly represents a network that will advocate on behalf of the issues central to its cause, such as: promotion of upcoming musical events on and off-campus, indexing of all interested performers and groups via a website, stimulation of the Middlebury music scene, and the formation of an on-campus recording studio.
Mischords: This all-female a cappella group was founded in 1962. They perform a vast repertoire, providing entertainment to the campus and surrounding community. They also travel to other schools and sing.
Mountain Ayres: A co-ed madrigal singing group specializing in medieval music, this organization performs on and off campus. Auditions occur in the Fall and Spring.
On Tap: On Tap is a group of dancers committed to the performance of tap dance. On Tap also seeks to share our love of the art with others through teaching a beginning tap J-term workshop and performing throughout the year.
Otter Nonsense Players (ONP): The ONP is a student-run performance group specializing in improvisational and written comedy. The 8-10 member group performs frequent shows in various venues throughout the year. Auditions are open to all students.
Paradiddles: This relatively new all-women's a cappella group on campus prides itself on its crazy, passionate and fun-loving spirit. This group includes all members in the music development process and performs a variety of song styles, including, but not limited to: pop, rap, heavy metal, Disney and jazz.
Pipe Band
RIDDIM (Middlebury World Dance Group): RIDDIM provides the Middlebury College community the opportunity to learn dances from all over the world — from Reggae, Calypso, and Hip Hop to Salsa, Merengue, Samba, African Dances, Jazz, Modern, and so much more. Everyone, regardless of ability, is encouraged to join this organization. Students are also encouraged to audition for the dance troupe, which is the performing part of the club.
Stuck In the Middle: The new all-male a cappella group dedicated to entertaining the campus of Middlebury College and beyond with its unique sound and energy.
VACA (Vitality of the Artistic Community Association): This group holds student art exhibitions, encourages the exchange of artwork between this college and others (as well as between the college and the community), sponsors guest artists and lecturers, and organizes trips to museums, art shows, and other creative venues. In addition, members critique and discuss student work and larger issues of importance to artists everywhere, serve as a link between the general student body and the College art museum, and lead workshops encouraging creativity in all of its many diverse forms.
