Welcome to MiddView!! Orientation trips are a 20-year tradition at Middlebury and offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to begin your college experience with a small and comfortable group of first-year classmates and student leaders. MiddView stands for Middlebury volunteer initiatives, explorations, and the wilderness. It is a trips program designed to appeal to a wide range of interests, and many of the trips assume absolutely no prior experience. Short descriptions can be found inside Trip Descriptions.

The only prerequisites are enthusiasm for meeting other first-years and a willingness to try something new! Your group may explore the beautiful mountains and waterways of Vermont, New Hampshire or the Adirondacks, volunteer in the local community, investigate organic farming, the music scene, or local politics in Vermont, or explore Bread Loaf mountain while learning about some of the authors who have spent time there. The choice is yours. Whatever your experience and background, there’s a trip to suit you! Some trips camp in the beautiful nearby mountains, while others are based from rustic cabins with full facilities. Some trips are entirely outdoor adventure oriented and others focus primarily on volunteer service or coming to know a part of Vermont’s cultural landscape. All offer an unforgettable experience with a small group of new friends, and a chance to pose your pressing questions about coming to college to those best able to answer them—current student leaders familiar with life here at Middlebury!

Important Notes

All applications must be received by June 13 so that we can begin the process of assigning participants to trips.

• There is a program fee of $175.
• Financial aid is available (see application).
