Alliance for Civic Engagement

Tiffany Sargent, Director—x3450

The Alliance for Civic Engagement is a campus-based clearinghouse and action center for Middlebury College students, faculty, and staff interested in making a difference in their community. The office’s goal is to provide prospective volunteers with the information they need to choose a volunteer opportunity. Students can draw from their extensive database of information on Middlebury area non-profit agencies and specific volunteer opportunities to find the agency or opportunity that’s right for them. In addition, the professional staff, working through the Office facilitate and promote community service at the College through a variety of student-led volunteer projects on and off-campus.

Commons Offices and Inter Commons Council

Gus Jordan, Acting Dean of the College —x5382

Middlebury's five residential Commons form the backbone of student life at the College. Approximately 400 students, representing all four classes, live in each Commons. Every Commons is led by a "team"- including a Faculty Head, Dean, Commons Coordinator and Commons Residential Adviser - that advise and support student residents and guide the cultural and intellectual life of the community. Inter-Commons Council (ICC) serves as a collective voice for all five commons with regard to student life.

The different commons have unique identities, peaks of interest, and styles. Each commons strives towards certain goals through its housing, leadership, events, and co-sponsorship.

To ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff, student organizations may be required to hire campus security for an on-campus event. This service is arranged through CCAL and is payable by the student organization to the Department of Public Safety. Groups may not hire private security for an on-campus event without written permission from the Director of CCAL.
