Brainerd is one of five Commons on the Middlebury College campus. We house over 444 students on campus and take pride in providing Stewart, Hepburn, Palmer, Brooker, 82 Adirondack, Norgay, Ride, Peary, the 77 South Main Street Apartments, Jewett and 70 Hillcrest as our students' homes away from home. Brainerd also has members living in the Social Houses, in Off-Campus Housing, participating in Study Abroad programs and living in Academic Interest Houses. Brainerd is affiliated with three Academic Interest houses - The Spanish House/Perkins, as well as the Portuguese and Arabic Houses - both established in the Fall of 2005.

The Brainerd Team
Beyond the housing assignment that affiliates you with Brainerd is a core group of individuals that make up the nucleus of the Brainerd Team - Dean Matthew Pacholec, the Heads of Brainerd Commons, Marita Schine and Professor Robert Schine, Coordinator Diane Burnham and CRA (Commons Resident Advisers) Elissa Denton. This team in turn works closely with the Brainerd Residential Life staff and the Commons Council. In unison they provide a network of services and avenues for you to utilize and explore during your time at Middlebury.

Our Res Life staff consists of 4 Residential Advisers (RA's) - two in Hepburn, and one each in Brooker and the Spanish House. The TAs (Teaching Assistants) in the Portuguese and Arabic Houses also fill the position of RAs within their language houses. We also have 8 First Year Counselors/FYCs living in Stewart with around 135 First-Year students. The Brainerd Res Life staff is guided by the CRA, Elissa Denton. Elissa will be working with the FYCs and RAs, respectively, on planning programming for your residence halls and meeting any challenges that may cross your path.

The 2007-08 Brainerd Council, which oversees the academic and social programming in Brainerd Commons, is led by a group of students with a wide variety of Middlebury experiences and previous Brainerd involvement. Commons Heads Robert and Marita Schine will be meeting regularly with the Council in an advisory role. The Middlebury community is one in which your ideas can be nurtured into realities. As a member of Brainerd Commons you have the opportunity to present your programming and thoughts on campus initiatives to the Council and ask for their support.
