Wonnacott Commons Student Awards
LORRAINE ZAK AWARD
The Lorraine Zak Award is presented annually to a first year Wonnacott student who exemplifies many of the qualities of Lorraine Zak.
Lorraine Zak was the first Coordinator in Wonnacott Commons. No stranger to the Middlebury College community, she had worked at the Center for Fine Arts for two decades prior to taking on this position. In the five plus years that Lorraine pioneered the position as Wonnacott’s Coordinator, she demonstrated compassion for all students, an infectious kindness, and deep concern for the welfare of others that was truly inspirational. Lorraine was also well known for her loving character which she shared generously with members of the community on a daily basis.

Erica Wonnacott Award
The Erica Wonnacott Award is given annually to a current or a past Wonnacott student who exemplifies many of the qualities of Erica Wonnacott, the namesake of Wonnacott Commons. Only current seniors, juniors, and sophomores are eligible to be nominated; all classes, however, can nominate.
We ask students to consider nominating one of their peers who exemplifies the qualities Erica Wonnacott was known to possess--compassion for others, commitment to education, involvement in the community, and a spirit of kindness. Erica came to Middlebury in 1968 as Assistant Dean of Women and served as Dean of Students from 1970 until her retirement in 1988; while she passed away in 2002, her legacy at Middlebury remains strong. She was known as an advocate and a friend to students.
