Middlebury College is a residential college with a comprehensive fee tuition that provides students with breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Students may choose to eat in the dining room of their choice and enjoy unlimited seconds at all meals. There is no restriction on the number of times a student may enter a dining room during a meal period. Diners can re-enter a dining room for ice cream half an hour after eating or they can actually eat a meal in one location and have coffee and dessert with friends in another.
For our diners' convenience, meals are available continuously from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Middlebury College Dining Services has a bag lunch program to accommodate those with class conflicts over the luncheon period. Early and late meals may be arranged for athletic teams with games that do not coincide with the dining schedule. Middlebury College Dining Service delivers meals to students who may be confined to the Health Center. During the summer Language Schools, separate meal schedules by school assist participants in honoring their pledges.
Middlebury College Dining Service feels that it is vitally important that students be able to make informed decisions about the food they eat. For this reason we post ingredient lists on all of our main entrees and nutrition breakdowns on many other foods. Working together we have been able to meet the needs of the vast majority of our diners and to make special arrangements for students on a case by case basis. We encourage students to take advantage of Middlebury College Dining Service's open kitchen policy. Anyone who wishes to learn more about the ingredients of any of the items we serve is welcome to visit our kitchens, speak with our cooks and check labels. In the serveries, diners are encouraged to speak directly with managers.
Since variety is the spice of life, Middlebury College Dining Service likes to shake things up once in a while. We present numerous unannounced monotony breakers and special contests throughout the year and serve late night breakfasts and snacks for those studying into the wee hours of the morning during final exam periods.
Students are allowed to eat on the terraces or lawns outside the dining halls at any meal. Middlebury College Dining Service doesn't mind! (However, to keep china replacement costs down, we do require diners to return with their trays)
Middlebury College Dining Service's manages and sponsors the student restaurant, Dolci. Similar to restaurant dining, Dolci offers a menu from which students may choose an appetizer, soup, salad, entree and dessert of the evening. The menu is designed, cooked and served by students, working with a Dining Service Chef/Manager. These students cook and waitstaff, work side by side with Middlebury College Dining Service's own staff, learning about all aspects of food service. Middlebury College students may enjoy Dolci free of charge but has a limited number of spaces each week. Students obtain their tickets earlier in the week in anticipation for what has become a popular and refreshing break.
