Cafecito Hour is an informal series of conversations and discussions around special interest topics from various academic areas presented by Middlebury faculty, staff, and students. The series is intended to provide an innovative and dynamic venue for individuals to present challenging topics that engage critical dialogue. We serve Café Alta Gracia, organic fair trade coffee from Dominican Republic.

‘Generation 1.5’ refers to a particular group of U.S. residents whose families relocated to the United States during their early or late adolescence. In this panel, multilingual students, faculty, and staff will talk about their experiences with immigration and integration into U.S. society and the relevance of these experiences to their work at Middlebury. Come join us for a discussion of how racial, cultural, and linguistic identities are constructed in and around our community.

Multiple Journeys
Guillermo Gómez Peña
“Multiple Journeys: the life and work of Gómez-Peña” invokes text and historical photographs to chronicle the performance art practice of post-Mexican writer, artist and activist Guillermo Gómez-Peña. By tracing his family life as well as his past 30 years in performance, visual and literary forms, the artist will discuss his work in context to the larger evolution of the field as well as to the main political and social events of the times.

Voices of the Marriage Movement in Vermont
Madeleine Winterfalcon, Assistant in Academic Administration
After the successful conclusion of the same-gender marriage campaign in Vermont, Madeleine Winterfalcon found it important to be sure that the stories of LGBTQ individuals and allies, as well as people with other opinions on this issue, would not be lost. During the summer of 2009, Winterfalcon traveled around the state to gather these stories.  She will discuss the process of this project, talk about where it goes from here, and share excerpts of these interviews.
