International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) serves as an office of support for international students studying at Middlebury College. We provide advising and related programs for students in F-1 status and Exchange Visitors in J-1 status.

Tuesday, February 10, 4:45 p.m.-Senior Session-Life After Middlebury-Carr Hall Lounge The ISSS staff will hold a session specifically for seniors. There are many options to think about as your time at Middlebury comes to an end. We will discuss Post-Completion OPT, the STEM extension, transferring your SEVIS record to another institution, and other visa categories to consider as you plan your life post-Middlebury. Regulation changes regarding OPT from spring 2008 will also be addressed

Wednesday, February 11, 4:30 p.m.-What About Summer?-Bi-Hall 216 Join the staff of the CSO, SEO, and ISSS to learn about internships and employment on and off campus this summer. This informative session will provide an overview of what you need to do to prepare for a worthwhile summer opportunity. We encourage you to come at 4:30 and stay until your questions are answered. Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT)employment authorization will be discussed beginning close to 5:00 p.m. If for some reason you cannot attend, please visit the appropriate office with your questions.

Wednesday, February 18, 5:00 p.m.-Brainstorming Your Visa Options with Immigration Attorney Deborah Volk-Carr Hall Lounge
Join ISSS staff and Immigration Attorney Deborah Volk from Burlington, VT to brainstorm different visa categories to consider after you complete your Middlebury degree. This is a special opportunity for non-U.S. Citizens/non-U.S. Legal Permanent Residents to have contact with an immigration lawyer so we encourage you to attend. This will be an open session, individual appointments will not be made, so please bring any questions you may have. While the focus is on seniors, it may be useful to others in terms of understanding the immigration landscape and thinking ahead about strategies you may want to use in developing your career plans.

First-Year Social with ISSS - February 19, 4:30-6:00 p.m Carr Hall Lounge Join the ISSS staff in kicking off Winter Carnival Weekend by meeting the new Febs and reconnecting with your First-Year friends. Come on your own, with friends, or invite a new First-Year to join us in celebrating your first year at Middlebury. There is no formal agenda for this event, as the idea is to reconnect and socialize! Sweet and salty refreshments will be served, complements of the ISSS staff. Stay the entire time, or stop by whenever you can. We hope to see you there!

Post-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop-February 25, 4:30-5:30 p.m.-Carr Hall Lounge ISSS staff will provide an overview of the off-campus employment authorization, OPT, for senior students. Post-Completion OPT is employment authorization for students in F-1 student status, who wish to work in the U.S. after completion of their Middlebury program. The session will cover the application process, eligibility requirements, and status maintenance while on OPT. Click on the OPT link on the right side bar for details.

Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop-February 26, 4:45-5:30 p.m.-Carr Hall Lounge ISSS staff will provide an overview of the off-campus employment authorization, OPT, for first-year, sophomore, and junior students. Pre-Completion OPT is employment authorization for students in F-1 student status, who wish to work off-campus during the summer break.
