ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Upcoming Workshop(s):
-
Employment/Optional Practical Training Q&A---Thursday, October 30, 2008--4:30-5:15 p.m. Carr Hall Lounge
Kathy Foley-Giorgio and Kaye-Lani Laughna will hold an informal session to allow students in F-1 student status to ask questions about applying/interviewing for jobs and what employers should know about hiring a student in F-1 status. This will not be an in-depth session regarding OPT, rather an opportunity to ask questions you may have about employment and applying for Employment Authorization. Regulation changes regarding OPT from spring 2008 will also be addressed.
-
Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshops-Jan./Feb. 2009
Kaye-Lani Laughna will provide an overview of the off-campus employment authorization process called OPT. Students in F-1 student immigration status must have appropriate authorization to work off campus. Click on the OPT link on the right side bar for details.
Standard Post-Completion OPT can be filed up to 90 days before the program end-date on your I-20. You do not have to have a job offer in hand to apply. Please note that the OPT process can take up to 90 days, therefore, we encourage you to attend an OPT session as early as possible and to process your application in a timely manner to avoid anxiety later.

Post-Graduation Immigration Issues Workshop with representative from Immigration Law Firm-Spring 2009
A representative from an immigration law firm will provide an overview of immigration options after you complete your Middlebury degree. This is a special opportunity for non-U.S. Citizens/Legal Permanent Residents to have contact with an immigration law firm so we encourage you to attend. While the focus is on seniors, it may be useful to others in terms of understanding the immigration landscape and thinking ahead about strategies you may want to use in developing your career plans.
Individual Appointments with an immigration adviser:
If you have specific questions about your immigration status, your individual enrollment plans, or your adjustment at Middlebury, please make an appointment with Kaye-Lani Laughna or Olivia Whitman by contacting Mary Cairns by telephone (x5858) or email at mcairns@middlebury.edu who can schedule a time for you.
