Taking as many different types of classes as I can; walking on campus |

I was born in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, and I immigrated with my mother to the Bronx in New York City. Coming from the Bronx and a big high school, it was a new experience to have professors know me by name. When I’m just walking about on campus, they remember me and say hi. What surprised me the most about Middlebury, though, was that I could do the academic work. Thanks to professors, academic challenges were more like fun activities. Middlebury encourages you to follow your dreams, and I try to follow as many as possible. I write poetry, have traveled abroad to Madrid and all over Europe, work with children as a community friend coordinator, advocate for Latino issues, and work in the Office for Institutional Diversity. But most of all, I love to dance—I’ve been dancing ever since I can remember. Riddim World Dance troupe on campus is like a second family to me. We learn and perform dances from many different cultures, and I’ve even choreographed some pieces. When I interact with the members of Riddim, that’s when I feel most at home and alive.
