One thing I am: Volunteer firefighter

When I look back at my first two years at Middlebury, I think of little sleep and endless hard work, yet I have never been happier.

The best thing about Middlebury is that there are equal opportunities for all students regardless of where they come from, what they look like, or how they dress. All it takes to be successful is to be passionate about what you do and work hard to achieve your goals.

When I joined the local fire department, I was surprised at how welcoming people were. People in town valued my role just as much as anyone’s, and it reinforced the decision I’d made to put other people first.

For me, the most rewarding moments at Middlebury are those spent taking the time to get to know people, both on campus, during meals and study breaks, and in town on the ever-so-exhausting fire calls.

I love Middlebury because when I am here, it never seems like a foreign place that I’m just spending four years in, but a community in which I belong, learn from, and contribute to day and night.
