Trip Acceptance Notification
You will be notified of your MiddView placement by e-mail no later than July 7. An acceptance packet will be attached in this e-mail. This packet will include your trip assignment, a liability waiver, medical form, packing list, and logistics form. A hard copy of these materials will also be mailed to you. Please complete and return this paperwork as soon as possible. These forms will tell us what we need to know to prepare for your MiddView experience!
Getting Here
MiddView participants must arrive on campus on Sunday, August 31, before 3:00 p.m. There are several travel options:
-
Option 1: You may already be here!
Some first-years (international students for example) will already be on campus. If you’ll already be here for other approved programs or activities, please disregard the rest of Getting Here and proceed directly to the What to Bring section below.
-
Option 2: By air.
We will be offering shuttles from the Burlington,
Vermont airport. The schedule will be based on
participant flight information, which we’ll collect on
the logistics form included in your acceptance packet.
-
Option 3: By car.
Cars must be registered upon arrival on campus at the Department of Public Safety.
Family Members
We suggest that MiddView participants arrive on Sunday, August 31 without family members. Family members can reunite with MiddView participants on the morning of Wednesday, September 3, when the Fall orientation program officially begins and MiddView participants have returned from their trips.
Room Access
You may access your room on Sunday, August 31st by checking in at your Commons Welcome center (in most cases, your Commons office). Frequently, orientation trips participants come to Middlebury with only the baggage needed for their trip. Family members then bring the balance of students’ belongings on September 3rd. If you choose to do this, we recommend that you bring a set of sheets and a pillow case for Sunday night. Another option is to bring your MiddView equipment and clothing with you, but ship the rest of your belongings to campus. Under no circumstances should you ship anything you will need for MiddView.
What To Bring
A complete packing list will be sent with your acceptance materials. MiddView has a limited supply of crucial gear such as backpacks and sleeping bags available to be borrowed at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation forms will be included in the Acceptance Packet. All group gear such as tents, stoves, canoes and climbing equipment will be provided. We’re also happy to assist you in locating any personal clothing or equipment you may need over the summer. You may be surprised at how much of the required clothing and gear you already have. MiddView also has a discount agreement with a local mail order dealer to further assist you. Don’t allow equipment concerns to deter you from applying. In the vast majority of cases, we can work out equipment issues!
