As we want you to have confidence in using our services, we also want you to understand how professional confidentialityworks. Along with providing you a private place in which to talk with us, we continuously review our practices to insure your confidentiality in every aspect of our work, including communicating to all segments of our campus and extended community what confidentiality entails.
Confidentiality means we will not disclose with anyone outside of the Counseling Center who we see in counseling or information shared in counseling sessions. On occasion, it may be necessary for a counselor to consult with another counselor on staff to provide continuity of care. We will need your written or verbal permission for any disclosure to any third party who is not a member of our counseling staff. If you inform a third party about your counseling relationship, that does not release the counselor to disclose information regarding counseling sessions.
Professional ethics and law require us to consider breaking confidentiality when there is danger to yourself, another person or property, to protect you or others from harm.
If we do think we need to share something about your current situation with another person, for the professional reasons mentioned above, we will make every effort to discuss this with you ahead of time.
Please feel free, at any time, to ask us any questions or express any concerns you may have in this regard.
