Individual short-term and crisis counseling is available if you have been sexually assaulted. If you need to speak to a counselor after 5:00 p.m. or on a weekend, call the Health Center and the nurse on duty will contact a counselor for you.

The College Chaplain is available to provide supportive counseling.
Parton Health Center, Ext. 5135.
Trained nurses, a physician, and a nurse practitioner are available to provide medical care, support, information on pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, and referrals. If you would like to have medical evidence collected for legal purposes, trained nurses are available and on-call after hours at the Health Center. Emergency contraception options are also available. If the Health Center is closed, you may receive care at Porter Hospital Emergency Room.

If you have been sexually assaulted you are encouraged to report the incident to Campus Safety. Campus Safety is available to provide transportation to Porter Medical Center Emergency Room. By reporting the attack to Campus Safety, they can alert the campus and community that a sexual assault has occurred. The warning will be general and will not specify your name or other identifying information. Reports of sexual assault made to Campus Safety will result in the notification of the assault to the Dean of Students and Health Center. Reporting a sexual assault to Campus Safety does not commit you to pursuing a judicial complaint.

The Deans are available to support you by arranging extensions on academic assignments, reassessing course load and/or making changes in housing assignments, etc., when necessary and possible. Formal charges of sexual assault may be filed with the Dean of Students staff. If you choose to file a formal complaint, an investigation and hearing will be conducted and disciplinary action taken if the defendant is found guilty. You do not have to file a formal complaint in order to request help from the Deans.

This hospital is available to provide medical treatment and to collect physical evidence. Having evidence collected does not commit you to filing charges with the police. It will allow you to preserve evidence while you take time to decide if you want to report the sexual assault and press charges.

Reporting the crime to the police is not a commitment to go to court. You can make that decision later. A report to the police includes making a detailed statement about what happened to you.
