Allergy Injections
Allergy injections may be administered at Parton Health Center if complete and explicit physician's orders and serum are provided by the attending allergist. Students requesting allergy injections should bring their serum and doctor's order to the health center.
The student will meet with one of our "Allergy Nurses" who will review the instructions and set-up a schedule for administration of injections. Injections are given at the health center by appointment when our physician or nurse practitioner is present. Students are required to stay at the health center for 20 to 30 minutes following each injection to evaluate for a reaction.
PLEASE NOTE: If a student is just starting allergy injections, s/he must receive the first injection with her/his home allergist. Because of potential adverse reactions, we will not initiate allergy shots.
Challenges sometimes arise in maintaining injection schedules due to students' personal travel plans and college breaks. We will work with you to help maintain your schedule. However, we reserve the option of not giving allergy injections to students who find it difficult to maintain their injection schedules. We will evaluate with the student the efectiveness and value of continuing allergy injections if the student misses three scheduled appointments in a row.
