Middlebury College Students Are Required to Develop and Enter a Personal Evacuation Plan

Because of the potential need for a quick response to an outbreak, you are the only person who can effectively plan for yourself. All Middlebury College students are required to develop and submit at least one Personal Evacuation Plan which includes:

1. Your name, and College I.D number,
2. Addresses of two locations, preferably in different cities and with one location within a reasonable driving distance of Middlebury,
3. How you will get to each destination,
4. Whether you would be able and willing to provide transportation to other students, and if so, how many,
5. Whether you would be able and willing to provide temporary housing to other students, and if so, how many.

  • The information will not be verified by the College, but students are strongly encouraged to discuss their plans with their families, including how they would communicate with their family during an evacuation.
  • While the College will require this only once during a student’s enrollment at Middlebury – and in future years typically during the first semester – students will be able to update their plans at any time.
  • Students will be responsible for notifying their families of any changes, and we strongly encourage you to inform anyone that you are dependent on for evacuation of their role in your plan.

Individual course registration for a student’s second semester following matriculation will not be available until the student has a plan on file.

Instructions for creating and entering a plan can be found on the Planning Instructions page.
