Parton Health Center offers confidential HIV testing to students. This means that HIV test results become part of a student's confidential health record. Your health record will not be shared with anyone without your permission. Only the professional staff at Parton Health Center have access to student records.
We invite students interested in being tested to call us at ext. 5135 to make an appointment to see a nurse. We will provide written information about HIV, testing procedures and discuss any concerns. This initial interaction is not recorded in the chart if a student chooses not to be tested. If a student chooses to be tested, blood is drawn at the health center and sent to one of two outside laboratories:
- There is a $16 lab charge for the test performed at the Vermont State Health Department lab. The results from this lab are usually available in two weeks.
- There is a $70.50 charge for the test performed at Porter Hospital's lab in Middlebury. The results from this lab are usually available in one week.
An appointment to receive the test result will be scheduled 1-2 weeks after your blood is drawn. The result will be given only in person and cannot be mailed or discussed over the phone.
Students interested in anonymous testing should call the Vermont Department of Health AIDS Hotline at 1-800-882-AIDS or Vermont Cares at 802-863-2437.
