Middlebury

Athletics

Middlebury athletics: In pursuit of excellence, both on and off the playing field.

At Middlebury, we recognize that participation in athletics builds character and leadership skills. Our athletes learn the values of hard work, dedication, cooperation, and the importance of fair play and teamwork. Middlebury’s superb coaching and first-rate facilities create an atmosphere that encourages student-athletes to develop as players and as individuals.

The athletics program at Middlebury places paramount importance on helping students lead well-balanced lives. Comprehensive programs, which include varsity, club, and intramural participation, offer athletic opportunities to all. We stress good health, physical fitness, and fitness activities that may be pursued throughout life.

Impact

Middlebury is highly successful in fielding exceptional athletes who are also exceptional scholars. Our varsity and club sports teams are highly competitive nationally, frequently winning regional and national championships. Our coaches, recognized widely for their coaching abilities and leadership, work closely with athletes to help them reach their full potential.

How You Can Help

Donors to Middlebury athletics play an important part in helping support the programs, teams, and coaching staff, as well as providing assistance with equipment and travel, to keep Middlebury athletics competitive and enriching.

Selected Funding Opportunities
Blue and White Funds

Newly established, the Blue and White Funds will be endowed and will help support each of the 31 Middlebury varsity sports. The funds will provide for ongoing budgetary expenses, such as food, lodging, equipment, compensation for part-time assistant coaches, and incidentals.

To establish a Blue and White Fund for a specific team, a minimum lead gift of $10,000 is required. Blue and White Funds may be fully endowed by an individual or specific group of donors, in which case the donor(s) may name the fund.

Panther Fund

This fund provides both short- and long-term budget support for athletics. The Panther Fund is both an endowment and an expendable fund, supporting travel for competition and other expenses not covered by the Blue and White Funds.

Annual Varsity Team Trips

Gifts provide financial support for annual team trips, often occurring over spring break.

Club Sports Fund

Supporters may make gifts to support the clubs of the Intercollegiate Club Sports Program—crew, equestrian, men’s and women’s rugby, sailing, and men's and women's water polo. Field House and Squash Center

Two new facilities that will transform athletics at Middlebury are under construction: a nine-court Squash Center set for completion in October 2013, and a 110,000-square-foot Field House that will host athletic, intramural, recreational and special events beginning in October 2014. While Middlebury has raised more than $43.5 million toward the total project cost of $46 million, the College aims to fund the entire project with gifts. Significant naming opportunities are still available. Learn more.

Snow Bowl Chairlift

The College is raising $1.7 million to fund the replacement of the 40-year-old Worth Mountain chairlift, which follows the Allen Trail to the summit. Learn more.
