Competition for Student-Led Global Affairs Conference

2013-2014 Student Global Affairs Conference

PLEASE NOTE: This year's competition deadline has passed. Thank you for your interest, and feel free to message Nestor Martinez at nmartinez@middlebury.edu with any questions you may have.

For the first time this year, the Rohatyn Student Advisory Board (RSAB) is holding an open competition for funding to support a student-organized conference of an international nature. The competition is open to all current undergraduate students–proposals can be submitted by an individual, a group of students, or even a student organization. This year, the winning submitter will receive up to $5000 toward funding their proposed conference.

If you're interested in submitting a proposal, please take the time to read through this page and supporting documents. Once you're familiar with the guidelines and instructions, please submit your proposal to rcga@middlebury.edu no later than November 14th, 2013 for review. RSAB will be in contact with you soon thereafter with regards to your proposal.

What kind of conference?

While the theme of proposed conference should be international and global in scope, the specific topic is entirely up to you as the organizer. For example, a successful proposal might explore topics such as:

  • The politics of public art around the world
  • The challenges and politics of Olympic events
  • Global environmental policies

There is no magic formula for what will make a winning proposal. RSAB asks only that it be far-reaching in scope, and reflective of the global society in which we live.

Additional Notes About Proposals

For this year's student conference, Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs, the sponsoring department, asks it be held during the third week of Winter Term, between January 10th, 2014 and January 22nd, 2014. As with a topic, the individual date(s) and time(s) will be entirely up to the organizers. A proposal can include different events, such as lectures, small-group discussions, film screenings, workshops, etc., and can be held in one day or over the span of a few.
