Florian Kastner

Faculty

Florian Kastner holds his B.A. and M.A. in German Studies in Cultural Comparison and a B.A. in Science of Religion from Ruprecht Karls-University Heidelberg, Germany. Currently he is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of German as a Foreign Language, Heidelberg. His dissertation deals with nightclubs in Berlin as spaces in contemporary German literature.

Florian has taught German in Vellore (South India) and was a TA at the German department of Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH in 2014/15. Since 2015, he has worked for the American Junior Year Program in Heidelberg, Germany, where he teaches all levels of German as well as literature classes. After the German Summer School in Middlebury, he will start his position as a lecturer at Yale University for the academic year 2016/17.

His research interests include urban spaces in literature, text and image relations and modern drama.

GRMN 3101 - Elementary German      

Daily activities include four hours of classroom instruction, plus additional work in the language laboratory and computer center. Emphasis will be placed on the grammatical structures of German as well as on conversation and correct pronunciation. Reading comprehension skills are introduced through primary texts, including literature. Throughout the program, audio-visual presentations supplement regular classroom activities.
