Academic Year in Russia

After completing your initial "summer of candidacy" on the Vermont campus, you will take mainstream classes with native speakers at a Russian university for an academic year in Moscow, Yaroslavl, or Irkutsk, as well as courses designed specifically for Middlebury students. Course studies include Russian Literature, history, politics, and culture. You will also begin writing your thesis. Upon successful completion of a final summer on our Vermont campus, where you will finish your thesis, you will be awarded your degree.

Normally, graduate students study in Moscow. With approval, graduate students may also study in Yaroslavl, and those with a particular interest in Siberia, Siberian studies, or the Baikal region may choose to study in Irkutsk.
