MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – More than 600 people, including alumni and their families visiting for Homecoming, enjoyed the thrills and chills of Middlebury College Activities Board’s second Halloween haunted house at McCullough Student Center. The student-run event, which required more than a month of planning, featured a cast of dozens as well as backstage crew for sets, lighting, makeup, and sound effects.

Organizer Maddy Dickinson ’18 said that Wilson Hall and its surrounding hallways, stairwells, and green room made the perfect location for a theatrical haunted house. It had professional lighting and plenty of space to build a network of ghoulish scenes. This year’s theme? An old, run-down theater.

This is the second year MCAB has sponsored the haunted house at McCullough. Dickinson says she wanted to bring back the idea of Halloween being about fun, excitement, scares, gore, mayhem, and, of course, candy.

“It’s an adrenaline rush,” said Dickinson. “Your heart beats faster and at the end you can say, ‘I survived the MCAB haunted house!’”
