National Coming Out Week Event Scheduled at Middlebury College on Oct. 11

Panel Will Focus on Issues Facing Gays on Campus

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—In recognition of National Coming Out Week, the Gay and Lesbian Employees at Middlebury (GLEAM) will sponsor a panel discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Middlebury College’s Dana Auditorium on College Street (Route 125).

The panel is titled "So You’re Gay, Why Are You in My Face?" Event organizers expect the panel to raise issues ranging from fears among heterosexuals about openly gay individuals, how the Middlebury College community generally treats gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students, and the need for a queer movement.

Panelists will include Sue Wilson, from Outright Vermont; Kim Howard, a professor at the University of Vermont, and co-author of "Out & About Campus;" Aubry Threlkeld, a member of the Middlebury class of 2003; and Don Eggert, a member of the Middlebury class of 1998 and co-president of the RU12? Burlington queer community center initiative. Panel moderator will be Roman Graf, Middlebury College associate provost for institutional diversity.

The event is free and open to the public. For additional information contact Joseph Watson at 443-5487.
