MIDDLEBURY,

VT-Middlebury College concluded its Bicentennial

campaign on June 30. The total amount raised to date exceeds $211 million

- $11 million more than the campaign goal established when the College

launched the fundraising drive in October of 1997.

The board of trustees, as a group, contributed $50 million to the campaign,

which raised money to support the endowment and academic programs and

to enhance teaching and facilities.

Noting that the more than $211 million sum was reached through the combination

of both large and small gifts, Middlebury College President John M. McCardell,

Jr. said, “No single gift to this campaign made the difference regarding

whether or not we met our goal. As I’ve said all along, this has truly

been from the very start an all-College campaign.”
