Middlebury College provides life insurance for benefits-eligible employees in the amount of 1.5 time base salary, and an additional 1.5 times base salary for accidental death.
Supplemental Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is available for employees, spouses, domestic partners, and children. Employees pay the cost of supplemental insurance.
Disability Insurance (Short and Long Term)
The College provides coverage that replaces 60% of the base salary when an eligible employee is unable to work due to illness or injury. This coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. For more information, please click on the links below:
What is Short Term Disability Insurance?
This is a benefit provided at no cost to benefits-eligible staff employees only (faculty are covered by the Short-Term Salary Continuation policy; see Faculty Handbook for details).
If you are out of work as a result of a non-work related illness or injury, after a 14-day waiting period, the insurance will pay you 60% of pre-disability base salary for a maximum of 26 weeks.

What is Long Term Disability Insurance?
This is a benefit provided at no cost to benefits-eligible faculty and staff.
If you are declared disabled, the LTD insurance will pay you after a 6-month waiting period.
You will receive 60% of pre-disability base salary up to a max of $10,000 per month. This amount is reduced by any Social Security Benefits you receive at the time.
Benefits continue until you are able to return to work or you reach retirement age.
