Facilities & Administrative Cost Rate (formerly Indirect Cost Rate)

Effective 07/01/2013, Middlebury College's F&A rate is 63% of salaries and wages.

Monterey Institute for International Studies' rate is 52% of salaries and wages.

These rates are negotiated with the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Fringe Benefits Rates

Fringe Benefit Rate

For grants that will be awarded on or after July 1, 2014: 36% of salaries & wages

Monterey Institute for International Studies' rate is 26.4% of salaries and wages.

This rate is negotiated with the US Department of Health and Human Services. It is a "blended rate" and does not necessarily reflect the actual rate for a given position.

Other Fringe Rates—Use only with approval from the Director of Grants & Contract Administration:

"Mandated Benefit" rate: 10% of salaries and wages

FICA Rate: 7.65% of salaries and wages

Waived rate for undergraduate students: 10% of stipends

Academic year undergraduate students: 3%

Annual Salary Increments

The current (2014-2015) annual percentage increments to use when estimating salary increases for multi-year budgets:

  • faculty: 5%
  • staff: 2.25%
  • students (hourly): 3%
  • student stipends: $10 per week per year
