UnifiedCommunications Project

Telephone System Replacements:

  • Middlebury campus
  • Monterey campus
  • Washington, D.C. office

With funding approved, Information Technology is currently working with a vendor to replace the existing telephone systems at Middlebury, Monterey, and Washington, D.C. with an integrated Cisco Voice over IP Unified Communications system.  Unified Communications comprises an array of telephony and collaboration services, such as voice mail to email, instant messaging, presence information, video calls, as well as PC/Macintosh and smartphone integration.

Why are we doing this?

Middlebury PBX is 20 years old and manufacturer support has ended.

  • Several single points of failure
  • Limited spare parts availability

Middlebury network switches support ends in 2017 giving us the opportunity to replace with switches that have the extended power to sustain VoIP.

Enhanced 911 Compliance.

  • Middlebury – 911 system manufacturer supports ends 2017.
  • Monterey – Pending CA legislation

Reduce operating expenses.

Integrate Middlebury and Monterey campuses, plus the Middlebury office in Washington, D.C..
