September Family Orientation

We are pleased to be able to offer some remote programming for families of new students. 

See below for a list of live virtual events, as well as some prerecorded information and quick links to resources.   Events and recordings are being added regularly, so please check back to this site often.

August 24:

  • 1:00-2:00 pm: Live Zoom Drop-In for Christian families: Meet Mark Orten, Dean of Spiritual & Religious Life and Chaplain of the College, and other staff who work directly with Middlebury's Christian groups.

  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Live Zoom Drop-In for All Families with the Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life: Meet the staff of the Scott Center for Spiritual & Religious Life, and ask questions about spiritual life at Middlebury

August 26

  • 10:30am – noon: Live Zoom Drop In Session with the Innovation Hub: Through funding, classes, workshops, and mentoring, as well as dedicated workspaces for ideation and collaboration, the Innovation Hub guides and supports students who want to explore and expand their creative ideas. Come meet our staff team and learn more about how we work with students.

August 31

  • 11:00-12:00pm-  Office of Sustainability Integration - Climate Action Capacity Project: Come learn about the brand new Climate Action Capacity Project (go/cacp)! The CACP seeks to provide all Middlebury students with the knowledge, motivation, and skills needed to be effective and transformative leaders on climate change across backgrounds, disciplines, and career paths. Launching this fall, the Project will take a multi-pronged approach through a Fellowship program, coordination with Energy2028 and various campus groups, support for student-driven events and trainings, and enhanced mentoring and alumni connectivity. Learn how to get involved and ask questions.
  • 4:00-5:00pm - Center for Community Engagement Virtual Open House: The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) connects students’ learning with hands-on and direct involvement in communities near and far. Through classroom connections, volunteering, student service organizations, internships, funding, democracy initiatives, and more, students learn civic skills and contribute their time, energy and skills to help address 21st-century challenges. Signature programs include Middlebury Alternative Break Trips, Community Friends mentoring, Privilege & Poverty Academic Cluster, and Language in Motion. Center for Community Engagement staff members will share information about programs and funding opportunities and join in conversation with family members about opportunities for their students.   • 5:00-6:00pm – Live Zoom Drop-In for Jewish Families: Meet Rabbi Danielle Stillman, Associate Chaplain and Jewish Advisor, and ask questions about Jewish life at Middlebury

  • 5:00-6:00 pmLive Zoom Drop-In for Muslim families: Meet Associate Chaplain and Muslim Advisory Saifa Hussain and ask questions about Muslim life at Middlebury.

September 3

  • 10:30-11:30AM: Office of Sustainability Integration: Drop in Session: Drop in to learn about opportunities and projects in the Office of Sustainability Integration--including new internships, the Knoll, and Environmental Council! OSI staff and students will be online to answer your questions.

  • 3:00-4:00pm: Welcome to the Center for Careers and Internships – Live Zoom Conversation and Q&A for Families of Incoming Students: Consider the Center for Careers and Internships (CCI) an integral part your Middlebury student’s experience. As advisors, educators, mentors, and connectors, CCI staff work with students throughout their four years to explore their path, discover their purpose, build their Middlebury story, and design their future. Personalized advising, creative programming, a vested alumni network, and dynamic internship opportunities that allow students to apply their liberal arts learning beyond the classroom and gain real-world experience span all career interests from STEM to not-for-profit to finance to education to the environment. We are here for students every step of the way and look forward to helping them explore what’s next! A brief Zoom discussion will be followed by Q&A, leaving participants plenty of time to ask questions. September 4

  • 3:00-4:00pm: Webinar and Q and A Session with the Student Activities Office (SAO):  Come meet a few members of the Student Activities Office and learn about how you can support your student in getting involved on-campus during their first semester.  The SAO team can provide a quick overview on how clubs and organizations will run this semester and then answer specific questions.

Sept 9
