First-Year Seminar Registration

You are required to take one during your first semester here, and, between January 6 at noon and January 13 at 5 pm, you must submit your list of choices (first through fifth) for that course. We are offering First-Year Seminars on a variety of topics.  Descriptions of seminars, together with instructions on how to submit your choices, can be found here: “First-Year Registration Booklet.”  Please open the attachment as soon as possible, read the letter, which is the first thing you will see, and then read through the entire booklet.  You will find some links in my letter to useful websites, but before you click on them, please make sure you look carefully through the letter and booklet, which will explain what the FYS is and the crucial role it will play for you as you make the transition to college.

It’s important that you look at this booklet carefully, not only because it has information on the First-Year Seminar, but also because it features valuable information on getting started here at Middlebury, and on course placement and selection for first-semester students.

Class Registration

All February students will recieve information about registering for the first year seminar in December.  That is the only class students will register for before they arrive in February.  All other class registration will happen during orientation.  Review degree requirements at go/requirements and for more information about registration visit go/registration.

Advising

Academic advising is central to the Middelbury experience, whether in your first-year seminar or the final stages of completing a major and writing your thesis.  Students begin the first semester with a first-year seminar, and the instructor of that small-group seminar serves as their advisor until they declare majors.  Learn more at go/advising.
