Welcome to First@Midd!

First @ Midd is a pre-orientation program that provides support to incoming students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year college, also known as first-generation. This optional, 4-day program is focused on acquainting you with many useful resources and offices at Middlebury, helping you navigate the sometimes complicated social and academic aspects of college life, and connecting you to members of our community who may be key to your success. First @ Midd begins on Thursday, August 31, and ends on Monday, September 4, allowing you to fully participate in MiddView, Middlebury's new student orientation program.

During First @ Midd, you will participate in activities, workshops, and educational and social events that will allow you to have fun meeting other students while at the same time preparing you for the transition to college life. Our goal is to help you build community, forge relationships, and learn some skills and strategies that can make your first year successful and enjoyable.

What are the dates of First@Midd?

August 31-September 4, 2017.

How do I register for First@Midd?

Click the go link to register by July 7: go/fmreg

Is First@Midd the same as MiddView?

No.  First @ Midd is only offered to incoming students who identify as first gen.  It will take place August 31 to September 4.  MiddView is the weeklong orientation for all incoming new students and will begin September 4, immediately following the First @ Midd closing celebration.  As a participant in First @ Midd, you will partake in both and remain on campus during this transition.  Click here for general FAQs about MiddView orientation.

What should I do for meals and housing?

Meals will be provided through dining services for you and your family.

For housing, you will move into your first-year residence hall on August 31.  You will only move in once, as this will be your room for the remainder of the year.  You will most likely meet your roommate the first day of MiddView (September 4).

Please note: You cannot move in earlier than August 31.

How do I get to campus?

Please visit Middlebury's orientation page for information about how to get to campus, public transportation, and parking information.  With notice, we will be able to offer complimentary transportation from Amtrak in Port Henry, NY (POH) and Burlington Airport (BTV) to Middlebury.

Where do I go when I arrive on campus?

We will have signs directing you towards the Anderson Freeman Resource Center in Carr Hall (452 College Street), which will serve as our welcome center for First @ Midd participants.  You will pick up your issued ID cards and your room keys, and then move in to your assigned residence halls.

Please arrive between 10AM and 3PM on August 31.

My family members are bringing me. How can they participate?

Activities

We will offer optional activities for families on August 31 and September 1.  For details, please refer to the First @ Midd schedule for families below.  Families should make their final departure from campus by 9:30 AM on September 2.

Lodging

First @ Midd participants will move into their residence halls upon arrival on August 31.  Please note that families may not stay in the residence halls with their students.  Instead, family members may refer to this page about where to stay nearby.

Meals

Our Thursday welcome dinner and Friday breakfast include both students and their families.  For other meals, families will have the opportunity to eat with their students in Proctor Dining Hall at no charge. Families and students are welcome to explore some of the local eateries on their own in town.  For more information about where to eat nearby, click here.
