Working together to make an impact.

Are you a community member or organization who wants to collaborate with CCE staff and/or students to make a difference in the community?

CCE staff work to build and maintain strong community partnerships that create opportunities for student learning and engagement, while furthering the work and objectives of the community organizations with which we collaborate.

Connect with Middlebury Students

  • Weekly opportunities newsletter: Submit an outreach blurb (for one-time or ongoing individual volunteering opportunities) to our weekly Opportunities Newsletter, social media, and/or website by completing the communications submission form at go.middlebury.edu/ccesocial (details of what to include are in the form). Reach out to Shannon McClain at slyford@middlebury.edu with any questions!
    • You can also subscribe to our Weekly Opportunities E-Newsletter that is sent to students, faculty, staff, and community members each Monday of the academic year. Go to our news tab to see our recent opportunities.

  • Orientation programs during New Student Weekend: Respond to the outreach that goes out in late spring for one-time group projects that introduce about 12 Middlebury College students to volunteering opportunities they could continue throughout the year. Contact Katherine O’Brien at katherineo@middlebury.edu to be added to this list.

  • Student Involvement Fair tabling: Each September, we host community organizations at an event attended by most of campus. This is a great way to introduce your organization and volunteer opportunities to students and build a volunteering list you can reach out to directly for volunteer needs. Reach out to Jason Duquette-Hoffman at jduquettehoffman@middlebury.edu to be added to this email list.
  • Community Connected Learning class: If you are a community partner and have a project that builds students’ civic skills, can be supported with your staff supervision, and takes about 3-5 hours/week for a semester, we can help you host a project for 1-3 students.

We send out requests twice a year to gather project ideas that students complete for academic credit. Reach out to Kristen Mullins at kmullins@middlebury.edu or Shannon McClain at slyford@middlebury.edu to be added to this mailing list.

  • Large, hands-on group projects: Do you have a project that requires a lot of hands? Reach out about hosting a volunteer event with MiddVolunteers or a Middlebury College athletics team! Students coordinate transportation to and from the events, and it’s a good opportunity to share information about upcoming and/or ongoing volunteer opportunities with those who attend. Contact Katherine O’Brien, katherineo@middlebury.edu, for more information.

  • Social Media: Learn out about our ongoing work by liking us on FacebookInstagram, and LinkedIn. We often repost volunteer opportunities from community organizations on our social media so send those along if you wish for us to re-share on our own networks! Reach out to Shannon McClain, slyford@middlebury.edu, with any questions.

Submit Partnership Ideas

Middlebury Liberal Arts in Action (MLAA) is a communication/matchmaking platform for finding a community partner or faculty member for research or class projects that last a full semester. Projects can be for small groups or a full class (up to 30 students).

MLAA provides community partners the opportunity to share project needs and ideas, and for faculty to share details of courses and research programs looking to incorporate community-connected work. Through this site, community organizations can:

Schedule a one-on-one consultation with the MLAA team at the Center for Community Engagement.

Internships and Employment

  • Create student job post: Create a job posting on Handshake to share paid employment opportunities with students over 18. Instructions for how to do this are here: https://www.middlebury.edu/careers-internships/employers

  • Request a student intern: Want to host a Winter Term internship (4 weeks, 25 hours/week in January)? Students receive course credit for their internship. Email Karen White at white@middlebury.edu in the Center for Careers and Internships and ask to be added to the community outreach list.
