Funding Sources

Thanks to the generosity of these donors and others, the Center for Education in Action is pleased to offer Funding for Unpaid Summer Internships.  Please note:  students do not apply for a specific fund--those specific allocations are determined by the Center for Education in Action.  Please click on the right to learn more about the summer funding process.

1.)   RONALD H. BROWN '62

  • For juniors only (last summer at Midd)
  • Focus: any industry, any location
  • 15-18 awards of up to $3000

2.)  DEIXLER SWAIN

  • For first years, sophomores, and juniors with demonstrated financial need
  • Focus on all industries
  • One stipend of $1200

3.)  FREDERICK DIRKS '30 Fund for Economic Literacy

  • Current first years, sophomores, and juniors
  • Focus on promoting interaction between Middlebury students and economists working in policy areas on a real-world economic problem. Interning as an economic research assistant to a group at the World Bank, IMF, or an NGO working on a specific project would qualify. (Internships with businesses or agencies that are not primarily economic in nature would not).
  • Stipends of up to $2000

4.)  FELTON FAMILY FUND

  • For first-years, sophomores, and juniors
  • Focus on business, community service, health, education, or non-partisan government service
  • One stipend of up to $1800

5.)  LOUIS KUTZNER '51

  • For sophomores and juniors
  • Focus on sales, marketing, and management in the communications field.
  • Stipends between $1500-2000

6.)  MAHONEY FAMILY INTERNSHIP FUND

  • Focus on the non-profit humanitarian sector
  • Domestic or international
  • 2-3 stipends of c. $2000

7.)  THE TORMONDSEN FAMILY INTERNSHIP AND SERVICE FUND

  • Supports participation in unpaid internships for current domestic students (first years, sophomores, and juniors) who have qualified for financial aid at Middlebury College
  • The award is in the form of an additional $2100 grant to a student's financial aid package for the upcoming academic year to offset the summer earnings expectation, plus $1,000 cash for expenses related to the internship or service project

8.)  KIMBERLY ADAMS KLINTWORTH ’80 and LINDA FOSTER WHITTON ’80 EDUCATION IN ACTION FUND

  • All returning undergraduates are eligible
  • Funds internships AND service projects (individual or group) to work with underserved populations (domestic and international, especially that will benefit women), particularly in humanitarian and educational capacities.
  • Funding up to $5000

9.)  MIDDLEBURY ARTS COUNCIL

  • For sophomores and juniors with demonstrated financial need
  • Focus on unpaid internships or workshop experiences in Theater, Music, Dance, Studio Art, History of Art and Architecture, Museum work or Film and Media Studies
  • Stipends up to $2,000

10.)  Sundial Pictures Internship Fund

  • One or two awards of up to $5000
  • The purpose is to support students doing internships in film, television or related industries.

CLIMB (Colorado Leaders, Interns, and Mentors in Business)
*For first years, sophomores, juniors
*Focus on all industries in Denver

*Stipends of up to $2700; includes housing

NEW MILLENNIUM FUND
*Forges connections between Vermont-based start-ups, small companies, venture firms, and innovative non-profits/NGOs and Middlebury College students by reimbursing the firm one half of its internship stipend costs of up to $4,000 (gross).

*Enables students to gain practical work experience in entrepreneurial environments while benefiting organizations that have the potential to contribute significantly to the economic well being of the state. (If sufficient opportunities do not surface within the region, proposals from similar organizations outside the region will be considered)
