Center for Education in Action
Empowering students to apply their liberal arts education and engage the world through their professional pursuits, active citizenship, and life’s work.
To best support our mission, we identify the important values below to guide our work with our colleagues at EIA and with our many stakeholders--students, alumni, parents, community partners, employers, internship providers, staff and faculty.
Effectiveness: We pursue successful outcomes, measured in quantitative and qualitative dimensions, and engage in an ongoing process of evaluation.
Inclusivity: We are committed to providing full access to information, opportunities and resources and seek to reach out to our broad and diverse community.
Innovation: We support creative thinking about engaging the world and challenge ourselves to think boldly in designing new approaches to our work.
Learning: We foster the continuous process of personal growth and empowerment through reflection and self-awareness.
Relationships: We recognize that collaboration and understanding are essential to positive, respectful relationships and to success.
Responsiveness: We strive to be a nimble and flexible center, providing quality advising, programming and resources to effectively address the evolving needs of our stakeholders.
At Middlebury, students don’t just learn how to engage the world—they go out and do it. And they can, because we make it an institutional priority to provide opportunities for them to apply their knowledge to real-world problems beyond the classroom.
Our advisers and resources focus on areas of civic engagement; career exploration; health professions; fellowships; and internships, both traditional and self-designed. We help you find opportunities—locally and around the world—to volunteer, craft an international immersion experience, begin your career exploration, find internships, prepare for graduate study, identify fellowships, and locate funding for projects. As you head toward senior year, we also provide on-campus and off-campus recruiting programs and advice on graduate school application processes.
You can find us in Adirondack House. Check out our EIA advisers page for contact information and information about appointment and drop-in hours.
Our support doesn’t end with your graduation; we continue to assist alumni with career counseling, medical school and fellowship advising, and access to our rich collection of informational resources.
So, where do you want to go?
