A Gates Cambridge Scholarship can only be taken up by a student who has been admitted to Cambridge through the University's normal application procedures. These are separate from the selection procedures for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Applicants for a Master's or Doctoral study are admitted to Cambridge through the Board of Graduate studies; those applying for a second Bachelor's degree are admitted by a College.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Besides completing the University admissions form, applicants for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship complete a separate form in which they set out their ambitions for the future and have an opportunity to show how study at Cambridge would help them to achieve their personal goal. They nominate a third referee who can write knowledgeably about them as people, and who might comment authoritatively on their non-academic attributes and achievements. Candidates for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship are neither required nor expected to be nominated for an award by their current institution. However, the fellowship adviser at Middlebury should be consulted early in the fall.
