What is Bread Loaf?

The Bread Loaf campus is located in Ripton, Vermont, about twenty minutes from Middlebury. The campus is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Montreal, about 4 hours from both Boston and Hartford, 5 hours from New York City, and 6 1/2 hours from Philadelphia.

The nearest airport is located in Burlington, Vermont (BTV), about an hour and ten minutes from the Bread Loaf campus.  The Burlington International Airport is served by American, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, Northwest, United, and USAirways.
Shared taxis from the airport to campus are available. 
The College uses a luxury van service called
Middlebury Transit. Details regarding how to make taxi arrangements are included with acceptance materials. 

Vermont Transit provides bus service from Montreal, Boston, Albany, and NYC to Burlington, Vermont.  Shared taxis from the bus terminal to campus are available.  See details noted in paragraph above.

Reservations to stay at Bread Loaf for Fall Family weekend will be open on August 15 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time.

What is the cost of staying at Bread Loaf

The charge for Bread Loaf is $50 per night/per person and includes breakfast. We require a two night minimum stay because we do not have the staff to clean and remake the rooms.

What are the accommodations at Bread Loaf?

The Bread Loaf campus consists of one main building (The Inn) and many smaller houses or cottages. Most of the sleeping arrangements are single beds-either one or two in a room. We do not put people in the same room unless it's requested.

With few exceptions, bathroom facilities are shared.  The cost to stay at Bread Loaf is $50/bed/night. We do not have the staff to turn over beds and we therefore have a 2 night minimum stay for Fall Family Weekend. The price includes a full hot breakfast in the dining room of the main inn.

Cell phone service at Bread Loaf is sparse to non-existent. You can make local calls from the Bread Loaf phones but we suggest you bring a phone card for any long distance calls including  student's cell phones.

Bread Loaf in October can be chilly at night and in the morning therefore we suggest you dress in layers.

Bread Loaf reservations are refundable up to 10 days prior to Fall Family Weekend.

 

When can I register for accommodations at Bread Loaf?

Registration for Fall Family weekend accommodations at Bread Loaf will be online only. The registration form will be available on August 15 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time. Go to http://go.middlebury.edu/ffw and look for the "Register Here" link.

Are there meals at Bread Loaf?

Breakfast is served at Bread Loaf on each morning. It is included in the cost of your room. Snacks are provided in the lobby of the main inn. Some of the smaller houses are equipped with kitchens.

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

Full refunds will be given up to 10 days before the event.

Does Bread Loaf fill up?

Bread Loaf does fill up quickly for Fall Family Weekend and we do keep a waiting list. Once we are fill, we will take down the housing portion of the registration form and there will be a link to the waiting list.

There isn't any shuttle service between the airport and Bread Loaf or between the main campus and Bread Loaf.

What else do I need to know?

Confirmation:

If you register for housing and you receive a registration confirmation it means that you do have Bread Loaf accommodations.

 

Cell Phones:

Cell phone service is sparse to non-existent at Bread Loaf however most of the Bread Loaf campus is wireless. There are phones in most rooms and you can get an outside line by dialing 9. You will need a phone card for long distance calls. Emergency services can be reached by dialing 911. For campus security you only need to dial 5911.

 

Attire:

It can be chilly at Bread Loaf, especially in the mornings and evenings. We suggest you bring layers of clothing as Vermont weather is know for its unpredictiblily.

Bread Loaf has many beautiful hiking trails of various difficulty, so you may want to bring comfortable walking shoes.

There is no need to bring anything dressier than a pair of nice slacks or a skirt and sweater. Men do not need a tie or jacket.
