Commons Dean - Atwater
Scott came to Middlebury College in 1998 attracted by the commitment being made to the "whole" student and community with the Commons system. Scott earned a degree in Political Science from Hartwick College in 1984 and a M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of Washington in 1995.
As a former High School Counselor Scott is very interested in student development and feels very fortunate to be able to interact daily with college students. As the Dean of Atwater Commons he advises students on social and personal issues, as well as matters of academic progress, promotes an atmosphere of respect health and safety in the Commons, and community values on campus, responds to emergencies, serves as a point of contact for other College resources, and supports the programs and activities of the Commons.
Scott has had the good fortune to pursue numerous areas of passion, both professionally and personally, in his life thus far. He has an range of interests including psychology, environmental issues, mountain environments, outdoor pursuits and enjoys being able to get outdoors as much as possible in the surrounding environments and further afield as well as sharing stories and impressions from any of these pursuits.
