The Middlebury College-UK Trust Ltd., led by a volunteer board of directors composed of Middlebury alumni living in London, expands the tax benefits for charitable gifts to Middlebury College from donors who are subject to UK income tax and/or US income tax.

The Trust was established by the College and registered with the UK Charity Commission in 2001. The UK Charity Commission designated the Middlebury College - UK Trust as a qualified UK charity for income tax purposes. Consequently, donations meet the requirements for the UK-based Gift Aid program. In addition, gifts from donors who live in the UK who are also subject to US income tax qualify as a charitable deduction for US tax purposes.

Gifts are made directly to the Middlebury College – UK Trust and are sent to Jayne L. W. Maxwell ’87, a London-based director of the Trust. Gifts to the Trust should be made in British Pounds. Upon receipt of the gift, Jayne forwards a “Gift Aid Form” to be completed by the donor to qualify for a UK tax benefit. Gifts made through the Trust and designated for the College are transferred to Middlebury via the International Philanthropy Foundation of Middlebury College. Transfers are approved first by the directors of the Middlebury College – UK Trust and then formally accepted by board of the International Philanthropy Fund of Middlebury College.

All gifts received are acknowledged by the Trust and the College.
