Middlebury grant to help build new ACTR center

June 21, 2012

Middlebury College has awarded Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) a $100,000 grant as a contribution towards the 20 percent local matching requirements of a $2.85 million federal grant previously awarded to ACTR for the construction of its Community Transportation Center.

The center, which will be located off of Creek Road, will contribute to the Town of Middlebury's leadership in greenhouse gas reduction by expanding bus routes, improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the local transit options, generating opportunities for car shares and other alternative transportation, and by serving as a park and ride location for commuters. The center will also provide much needed improvements in office, meeting, and training space for ACTR, which will help the organization run more smoothly and efficiently.

This grant is part of a long history of collaboration between Middlebury College and ACTR, which you can learn more about here. The College has also recently partnered with ACTR on a proposal to do a Smart Commute pilot study, the goal of which is to reduce the number of people driving alone to and from work as well as reduce driving alone for work-related business during the work day.
