Earth Day celebration, tasty success

Middlebury students from the Sunday Night Group baked a giant cake to celebrate Earth Day. This enormous cake was made from 12 sheet cakes and decorated with 4 big tubs of frosting!

Climate change workshop May 1-3

Middlebury College will host a global climate change workshop sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation titled Getting to 350: Building Strategies for 21st Century Aspirations the weekend of May 1-3. NASA climatologist James Hansen will give the keynote address, via live video feed.

Chill Out webcast highlights colleges addressing climate change on campus

Middlebury College in Vermont has been honored by National Wildlife Federation as a winner in the annual competition Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming. This award program honors U.S. schools that are advancing creative solutions to global warming on their campuses. Middlebury is one of eight winning schools that were chosen from a national pool of entries.

Middlebury student videos on PBS April 15

Two Middlebury student videos will be featured on the pilot episode of Planet Forward, a new show on PBS addressing climate change and energy. To highlight Middlebury student involvement, the Film and Media Culture department is hosting a screening Wednesday, April 15 in Dana Auditorium at 7:45pm.  After the show, other Middlbury-produced videos will be shown, followed by a panel discussion with student video producers, Film & Media Culture professor Jason Mittell and Environmental Studies professor Jon Isham.

Bike Sale Raises $2720 for Middlebury Bike Shop

The Middlebury Bike Shop sold 85 abandoned bicycles at their recent bike sale, providing students, staff, and faculty with an easy and cheap way to get around campus and town.

Jocks and Treehuggers

On Tuesday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m., a panel of sports professionals and environmental advocates will participate in a discussion at Middlebury College titled "Jocks and Treehuggers: Pro Athletes on Sustainability." The event is free and open to the public and will take place in Room 216 of McCardell Bicentennial Hall, located on Bicentennial Way off College Street (Route 125).

Power Strip: How much can you take off?

March 19, 2009

Sign up to compete in teams of five to reduce electricity use in your dorm rooms. Each team member gets a Power Strip Kit with a meter to track their electricity use and tools for conserving electricity. Teams participate for two weeks to measure the electricity they currently use and the amount they conserve. How much can you take off?
