The Living Room
The Chellis House living room is an ideal location for seminar-type classes. The home-like surroundings foster a relaxed atmosphere. Students, faculty and staff gather here for meetings, parties and other events.
The Alison Gwen Fraker Reading Room is located upstairs. It holds our collection of resources on gender as well as an archive of feminist activity at Middlebury.
The deck looks over a small back yard. Students meet here for lunch and it is the site of our wonderful end of the year picnic.
Chellis House coffeehouses provide a forum for resident and local singer/songwriters and an opportunity for students to get together informally.
Chellis House, The Women's Resource Center serves as an informational, educational and cultural resource for the students, staff and faculty at Middlebury College. The May Belle Chellis Resource Center is located in Chellis House (behind Proctor).
Organizations that use the space for meetings, workshops and social activities include Women of Color (WOC), Feminist Action at Middlebury (FAM) It Happens Here, and the Sister-to-Sister Program.
The Resource Center also contains a diverse collection of books relating to gender studies in the Alison Fraker Library. Besides holding an important collection of resources, the library is open to any student and offers a quiet place to study. The Center has a living room, dining room and kitchen and is available to any students looking for an alternate place to study, chat, or have coffee with friends.
By serving as an educational and cultural resource, Chellis House aims to provide a forum for the advancement of women's and gender issues at Middlebury College.
