One year after the devastating earthquake that struck Japan, Middlebury College students, faculty, and staff will reflect on the anniversary with a series of cultural events, including theatrical readings, guest speakers, and a faculty panel discussion. The events, to be held between March 11 and April 5, will also raise funds for the ongoing relief efforts halfway around the globe.

Chilean Earthquake

On February 26th there was an 8.8 magnitude earthquake outside Concepcion, Chile.

All students who have arrived for orientation for the Spring semester are accounted for and are currently in Santiago, about 200 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake, for orientation.

Meg Young ’07, a staff consultant with the international development group ECOLOGIA, was with her colleague and classmate Kate Leyland ’07 in the Sichuan Province city of Chengdu, 80 kilometers southeast of the quake’s epicenter, meeting with bankers when the Earth shook.
