Scan a Photo, Slide, or Document
What it is:
Scan photos, slides, or documents for use in other applications, for input into OCR programs, or conversion to PDF.
What you need:
- A scanner (available in many public computer labs)
- Scanning software
- Storage
How you do it:
After launching the scanning software, set the preferences and scan your item. After saving, you can open the file in image editing software or in text conversion software (OCR).
OCR
OCR stands for Optical character recognition. When one scans a document, an image file is created. The computer does not recognize letters on the page, so the user is not able to search or edit the content. OCR software converts scanned images of handwritten or typewritten text into a text file that can be edited and formatted with a word processor.
