What it is:

Saving citations and articles into a personal database, so you can automatically generate bibliographies, format papers, share citations, and more.

What you need:

An online research management, writing and collaboration tool such as RefWorks, Zotero, EndNote or EndNoteWeb).

How you do it:

Use links embedded into most of Middlebury's research databases (and MIDCAT) to quickly collect citations.  In most cases, you can collects a full citation in a click or two.

RefWorks is free to Middlebury students, faculty, and staff.  Create an account and get started here.

RefWorks is well integrated into all the research databases most commonly used by students and faculty.

The most common feedback we hear is, "Why didn't someone tell me about this when I was a first-year?"

Citation Guides & Tools for Formatting Bibliographies

**Find out what style guide is required/recommended for your thesis.

Consider using a bibliographic management tool, such as Zotero (easier) or RefWorks

You can save citations in a database and these tools will automatically format your citations into the style you need (ex. MLA, APA, Turabian,...).  Zotero is an add-on to Firefox and with it you can directly download citations from your browser.  There is also a standalone version for Chrome or Safari.  In addition, many databases allow you to directly export citations to Refworks and Zotero, using their save/export function.
